English apps did not speak their language. Printed Bibles cost more than many families could spare and were not always easy to carry. Sermons, courses and Christian teaching in Urdu were scattered, or simply did not exist online.
The gap
Consider who was being left out: a young man working nights as a security guard who could not attend a Sunday service; a nurse in the Gulf with no Urdu-speaking church within a hundred miles; a village pastor with a congregation and no books; a student searching for answers about Jesus Christ who would never walk into a church building; a mother who wanted her children to hear Bible stories in their mother tongue.
The answer
Urdu Church was built by Good Samaritan Ministries Pakistan for all of them. It is the first and largest Christian app for Urdu speakers: the complete Urdu Bible with English Bibles alongside, Injil, Zaboor and Torah shelves, daily verses and reading plans, hundreds of sermons, a pastoral guide, Bible College courses with licenses and certificates, free education in English and exam preparation, the Bible quiz, competitions, a prayer wall, church news, jobs and community. Not a replacement for the church
Urdu Church is not a replacement for the physical Urdu church, and never will be. The local church, its pastors and its worship remain the heart of the Christian life. The app exists for the hours between Sundays and for the people no building can reach, and it points every user back to a local congregation. Live online services are coming soon for those who cannot get to a church at all.
